Twestival Local 2011

On March 24, 2011 Twestival went 'Local' in 150 cities around the world. Events for Twestival Local raised $565k and lots of awareness for local nonprofits that organizers identified for having an incredible impact within their own community. The events were as big or small as the city wanted to make it. We had Twestivals in a local pub, a bowling alley, a trapeze studio, and even a giant yacht, all thanks to the generosity of local donors and sponsors who came forward to support the volunteer efforts. Twestival is all about using your time, talent and resources to come together on one night to make a difference. Thank you to everyone involved this year - you should be very proud! Think global, act local.

Twestival: Tweet. Meet. Give.

Twestival® (or Twitter Festival) uses social media for social good by connecting communities offline on a single day to highlight a great cause and have a fun event. Twestival is the largest global grassroots social media fundraising initiative to date. Since 2009, volunteers have raised $1.75 million for over 275 nonprofits. All local events are organized 100% by volunteers and 100% of all ticket sales and donations go direct to projects.

Twestival was born out of the idea that if cities were able to collaborate on an international scale, but work from a local level, it could have a spectacular impact. Over 200 international cities from Buenos Aires to Bangalore, Seattle to Seoul and Hong Kong to Honolulu have participated in Twestival. What started out as a single event in London in the fall of 2008 has now turned into a global movement, rallying volunteers in over 45 countries to bring their Twitter communities together in support of a good cause on a single day. If you'd like to get a bit more info about the history of Twestival read : Twestival. Two years on.

Twestival Global 2010

72 million children in the world do not get the opportunity to go to school. Education is a cause which everyone agrees gives people the tools to pull themselves out of poverty - yet it receives so little funding or awareness compared to other issues. So we decided to put the spotlight on this global education in 2010 by supporting Concern Worldwide who have a comprehensive and compassionate approach to education and reach some of the most vulnerable children. On March 25, 2010 over 175 cities hosted events and raised over $400k. Our funds have been deployed to Malawi, Liberia, Haiti and Burundi. Six months later, we traveled to Liberia to visit one of the larger projects we are supporting to report back on how the donations have been used. Please take a look at all the videos and photographs.

Twestival Local 2009

In September 2009, the first Twestival Local took place with 133 cities joining forces to host events in support of 135 local charities.

Twestival Global 2009

Over one billion people on the planet do not have access to clean and safe drinking water. That is one in six of us. The inaugural Twestival Global on February 12, 2009 highlighted this important cause in 202 cities that hosted events and carried the message of charity: water. The events, which were organized under very short timescales raised $264k, resulting in 55 wells for over 18,000 people in Ethiopia, Uganda and India. Two months after Twestival, we went with charity: water to Tigray, Ethiopia to drill our first Twestival well and produced daily videos of the drill. Please watch.
